ERP benefits far outweigh challenges

////ERP benefits far outweigh challenges
Manufacturing businesses know how valuable ERP implementation can be. Most are already using software in some way. Ann All of Enterprise Apps Today said a recent report showed 63 percent of businesses end up exceeding their ERP budgets. This is a large number, so surely businesses know how much ERP means to them. Dynamic Manufacturing Solutions said in a recent e-book that it is important to protect the investment of ERP by any means. This means being sure the company does not exceed its budget and stays in line with where it needs to be. Properly implemented software from DMS gives a company the ability to host software on the provider of their choice, update and upgrade when needed and run the software on the cloud. This should all go toward helping save money on the ERP investment. All said the report found much of the issue lies in excess customization of a program. For manufacturing organizations that are new to ERP implementation, customization should be taken slow at first. This is software that can become extremely complex very quickly, so it is best practice to take it slowly and ensure it is adopted and integrated correctly. A white paper from DMS and the Aberdeen Group found that 92 percent of manufacturers utilize ERP in some way, but the top-of-the-line organizations tend to fixate their interests on real-time collaboration. Forty-seven percent of the best-in-class businesses advance collaboration compared with 33 percent of manufacturers not using ERP as well. Top enterprises are also far more likely to integrate social media and create a system of record within ERP that is able to be audited. “Today’s successful manufacturing organizations are evolving their ERP strategies to support them in competitive markets,” the white paper reported. “By providing collaboration capabilities and enhanced visibility, manufacturers can innovate, react, and stay ahead of the competition.” Learn how to define your ERP strategy by downloading the white paper entitled “ERP in Manufacturing: Defining the ERP Strategy” from the DMS website today.
