NavXtender is easy to install. Simply download the installation file from the Insight Works’ website and install it. That’s it! After installation, to attach documents, you easily drag files onto your NAV records.
The integrated version of NavXtender requires someone with administrator privileges to import a codeunit into Dynamics NAV. Watch the installation video.
NavXtender does not require that any changes be made to your installation of Dynamics NAV for basic file association. To create record links when a file is dropped, you simply need to import a single new codeunit.
NaxXtender will accept all common document types including .pdf, .docx, xlsx, pptx, .html, .txt, .zip, .jpg, .png, .gif, and more. You can even drag email messages directly from Microsoft Outlook and store them as an .msg file within NAV.
You can but it is more efficient to use NavXtender. By attaching your documents to NAV records, there is no need to access another application to view related documents. The documents are easily accessible, don’t get misfiled and others can access them.
The only difference between the two versions of NavXtender is the integrated version creates “Record Links” within Dynamics NAV. The “Record Links” button enables you to access your attached documents. The stand-alone version also enables you to access your attached documents from the associated NAV record however it does not use the “Record Links” feature. To integrate NavXtender, configuration requires a NAV object import.
Yes it is. NavXtender is free to use for personal and commercial use. Anyone planning to install the utility must download their own copy from Insight Works. Insight Works does not permit the sharing of the installation file.
NavXtender is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit. The correct version to install is based on your NAV client being 32-bit or 64-bit and NOT on the version of your Windows operating system. If you’re running NAV 2015 or older, you should install the 32-bit version. If you’re running NAV 2016 or newer, you likely need the 64-bit version of NavXtender. When both NavXtender and NAV are running, NavXtender will provide a warning in the event the 64-bit version is not compatible, in which case, the 32-bit version should be installed instead.
If you want to take advantage of NAV’s built-in “Record Links”, you’ll need to install the integrated version of NavXtender. The process isn’t overly complicated however you may need to enlist the help of your IT support. For complete instructions, review this video.
* Installation of the stand-alone version of NavXtender does not require support from your IT professionals. The integrated version of NavXtender does require someone with administrator privileges to import a codeunit. Learn more about versions here.
