Different methods of document reporting with Dynamics NAV 2015

One of the more critical developments of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 is changes to the way reports are produced and delivered to customers and other businesses. The integration of Microsoft Word as a means to create reports has been a great boon to many manufacturers who otherwise felt uncomfortable with the NAV’s traditional methods. But there’s more work that was done on reports that affect all aspects of manufacturing. Looking into these developments is critical for companies to make the most of their business operations and work more effectively with banks and customers.

Spreading the Word
Previously, we discussed with DMS president Mark Hamblin on the effects of Word integration in Dynamics NAV 2015. He noted that the crucial part was that it made it a lot easier for companies to better write invoices and other documentation into the ERP software. Equally important, though, is the degree of customization that’s available with document reporting now. While many companies will likely migrate to Word, they don’t have to use that option alone when developing reports, for RDLS has been retained as an option.

That can help businesses that have multiple facets to their operations get the results they need quickly. For example, if a shop runs both made-to-stock and made-to-order operations, they’ll need different invoices for each. With a set of materials or parts, a uniform document that simply lists the part can be done through RDLS. On the other hand, if a customer demands a specific part that is not made for stock or with alterations, the plant can write up a better customized invoice based on the bill of materials, giving a more precise cost based on the materials delivered.

Keeping costs safe
Speaking of invoices, cash management has also been adjusted with NAV 2015. As ERP Software Blog noted on the Dynamics NAV Community blog, there have been several enhancements made to the cash management system. The first is the Bank Data Conversion Service, which can convert bank statements into data that can then be imported into the ERP. More importantly, however, companies can send payment information through the system. In other words, bank payments can be made fully electronic. Doing transactions becomes a lot easier, in part due to automatic registrations. More importantly, accounting becomes more seamless with all aspects of the payment process being done through the ERP.

Better scheduling
Along with enhancements to document reporting, Dynamics NAV offers report scheduling for its documentation. Instead of filing and printing a report manually for daily production runs, for example, companies can automate the process by pulling data from the ERP and creating the report automatically at a specific time and place. With extensive customization, a variety of different aspects of operations can be recorded and documented in advance. If there needs to be sales data for a given day, NAV’s report scheduling can plan to record that information in advance. That can allow companies to compile information on their business at the right time and place. This provides a lot of leverage that helps companies become more flexible.
